Anteage Microneedling

Microneedling, in my humble opinion is one of the foundational treatments we have to preserving a youthful environment in the dermis.

In all the most advanced aesthetic modalities that we have at our finger tips, microneedling taps into a model of skin regeneration unlike any other modality– including laser, microdermabrasion and anything else that disturbs or disrupts the skin in some kind of way.

Microneedling is a non-ablative procedure that involves the usage of tiny surgical steel needles that gently pierce the top layer of the skin to increase the skin's production of natural growth factors. The mechanism of action is rather simple, when the needles gently push through the very top layer of the skin, they pierce the viable epidermal cells known as keratinocytes. Those keratinocytes then naturally release their own payload of protein molecules, growth factors and cytokines, the signaling messenger molecules which then flood through the rest of the skin. These molecules coordinate and instruct the skin's ability to heal.

While most lasers or other modalities that burn through the barrier stimulate a significant amount of inflammation, microneedling mitigates any excess inflammatory cascade while tapping into the skin's regenerative capacity. This process is extremely conducive to what we see in children, and their body's natural ability to heal and regenerate itself. This is due to an abundance of circulating stem cells and growth factors in our body. Microneedling naturally increases the skins production of growth factors. Not only is microneedling a phenomenal way to stimulate regeneration via the wound healing cascade, but it also allows for an increase in nutrient uptake and bio-availability. 

While a fantastic modality, microneedling is a small piece of the puzzle. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid has been proven to be anti-inflammatory, create scarless wound healing as an anti-angiogenic, and stop the production of cells proliferating that are potentially malignant. On the flip side, low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid, though providing some moisturizing properties, also has the ability to increase inflammation, reduce the skins ability to heal effectively, increase scar tissue, and promote the proliferation of malignant cells. As a result, it is very important from an efficacy and safety standpoint to use high molecular weight hyaluronic acid– whether applied daily or in microneedling solutions.
